Christmas in Oaxaca?

A message from Victor:
During our reunion there was talk of getting together to spend Christmas in Oaxaca in 2008.   I would like to know who would be interested if the circumstances are appropriate.  I would like to start researching costs…the larger the group, the less expensive.  At this point I am only asking for an indication of interest…I am not asking for a commitment. Please pass the word to family members.

After the Reunion

Well folks, I’m sorry to say that I did not make it, due to a nasty back spasm that kept me from driving up. From everything I’ve heard, the reunion was fantastic! Special thanks go to Cousin Clint and Carol and Uncle Andy for making it all happen.

Here’s the link to Victor’s wonderful slide show: http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=amv5rrx.6zn3pn1t&Uy=-hlnxob&Ux=0

I tell you guys, it’s almost like being there! I think they really captured the feel of the reunion. I posted a selection of my favorites from their collection here: http://www.somersfamily.net/reunion/reunion.html
If anyone else would like to share their pictures or stories about the reunion I urge you to do so. You can add comments by clicking on the comment link directly below this thread. Or you can register and log in and post your own thread, where you can post a link to your pictures or even upload a few. And if you want me to do it for you, I’ll be happy to. Just mail or email me the information, pictures, links etc.

Reunion on Sunday, July 15

Memorial Mass in Monterey

There is Mass in the chapel in Monterey on Saturday July 14th at 7p.m, and I asked the Father from Our Lady of the Hills Chapel to dedicate it to the Somers family, as it is the reunion weekend. Phil and I have been contributing to the upkeep of the Chapel annually, ever since my parents’ deaths, so I guess we have some clout.  This chapel was built by my great-grandfather Arthur S. Somers, because there was no place for Catholics to go to church in town.  Back then it was a long horse and carriage ride from Monterey to Great Barrington!

Reunion Roundup - Lassoing in the Stragglers

Hello Family; One week from now we will be having our reunion. this is actually the second, the other was held in Florida and it was just a small group. If there are any of you still waffling please make up your minds right now and COME COME COME. At 4 o’ clock, on Sunday July 15, the day of the reunion, there is going to be a meeting of all who wish to participate, to talk about the Arthur S. Somers Educational Fund. We must vote in new officers and decide how to attract more family participants. So you see it is urgent that you all come.

Let’s have a T shirt!

Val or Mary could design it. Val was thinking of the Somers family crest. Right now she’s thinking she’ll just throw the idea out there and let people do their own shirts if they want. I had the idea of everyone contributing something to the Arthur S. Somers fund so she could afford to have the shirts made. Everyone who made a donation would get a t-shirt. Any other ideas? If so, post a comment here.

Family Reunion

Hey guys, you can put forth your creative ideas for the family reunion here, and bounce it off others. I like the idea of having a map showing sites of interest to the family around the Berkshires. If you take a look at My Trip you can get some ideas about some places you might like to visit while in the area. One thing that still needs to be tracked down is the old McCormick residence in Great Barrington. Another thing to be done is to look up the owners of Lawrence Tavern in Canaan, which are said to be descendants of the original family. Have at it!
